Finally got around to buying the video card. I decided to go with NVIDIA since ATI ditched me last time. Keeping in mind the budget and performance decided to go in for the NVIDIA GeForce 6600. Got it and installed it. Vista had a native driver for it. Once installed had to REFRESH the windows rating. Now the rating jumped from 1.0 to 3.5 for the windows experience index. Aero was up and running. Man! It was great. Once you get used to the Aero and Vista you’ll get sick of going back to vista. Installed the Nvidia RC2 driver from website and had to refresh the rating again. All is good.
I did notice a few hiccups. Some apps don’t get along well with aero. Azureus turned off aero each time it was launched. Probed a bit and found that I need to run time 6. Installed Standard Edition (Java SE) 6 Beta 2, still no go. Probed some more and found that in JRE Beta 2, you must copy msvcr71.dll from C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0\bin to C:\Program Files\Azureus . Now aero works with Azureus. Photoshop CS2 also had some issues, it disabled Aero Glass and needed to run as admin for accessing the scratch disk.
But, on the whole everything seems to be working fine. Waiting for the final Vista release.
